Tove Kommedal (født 1970), ser på kunst som en livspraksis.
Hun arbeider ut ifra ideen om at kunsten kan ha samme funksjon for samfunnet som drømmene har for menneskets helse. Kunst er friere enn andre disipliner til å utfordre ideer og strukturer og kan derfor åpne rom for nye inntrykk og refleksjoner.
Kommedal har en utstillingsretta kunstnerisk praksis. Arbeidet er prosess- og prosjektbasert innenfor følgende teknikker: skulptur, installasjon, tegning, silketrykk, tekst og film.
Gjennomgående tema i hennes praksis er eksistens, enkeltindividets sårbarhet i samfunnet og spørsmål om makt.
Kommedal har en kontemplativ tilnærming til material, form og farge og bruker kroppen som sanselig resonans. Intensjonen er å fremme materialitetens egenverdi og identitet.
Kunstnerens arbeidsprosess er intuitiv, og den bærer preg av improvisasjon som holder prosjektet åpnet helt frem til det er ferdig. Kommedal arbeider lenge med underliggende konsept og tematikk i enhver utstilling som formgis i flere teknikker og metoder.

Tove Kommedal (born 1970), sees art as a life practice. She is of the opinion that art can have the same function for society as dreams have for the individual’s health. Art is freer than other disciplines to challenge ideas and structures and can therefore open up space for new impressions and reflections.
Kommedal has an exhibition-oriented artistic practice. Her works are processual and project-based and involve multiple genres and techniques: sculpture, installation, drawing, silkscreen (serigraphy), text, and film.
Recurring themes in her practice are existence, the individual’s vulnerability in society, and questions about power.
Kommedal takes a contemplative approach to materials, shapes and colours. Using the human body as an aesthetic and sensory resonance chamber, her intention is to elevate the intrinsic value and identity of materials.
Her work process is intuitive and characterized by improvisation. She keeps the projects completely open until the final stage. For each exhibition, she works at length with underlying concepts and themes, and the exhibitions take shape through multiple techniques and methods.
